Ruby Star Society's Perfect Picnic Quilt

We love a project that is quick and accessible for all skill levels. If it gives you lots of opportunities to inject your own personality into it, even better!

That’s what got us excited about Ruby Star Society’s Perfect Picnic quilt. Their summer sewalong starts next week, but even if you’re not planning to participate, it’s the perfect opportunity to tackle your first-ever quilt or whip one up in a weekend as a wedding gift (or a gift to yourself!).

The beauty of this quilt is in its simplicity: cut small squares and sew them into progressively bigger squares! The fun is in the fabric choices- the possibilities truly are endless! It’s buffalo check style, so for the most basic version all you need is one light, one dark and one medium coloured fabric, like the version above that we put together! For the wildest, scrappiest version, dive into your scrap stash and mix-and-match patterns, prints, solids- whatever!

The size of this quilt is easily customized as well. The pattern is for a 67.5” square throw, but to make it larger or smaller, just add or subtract rows!

If you’d like to make this quilt, we’ve been putting together a few kits of some fabric combos we love! You can also browse through our selection of custom bundles and see if anything catches your eye. Fabric requirements for the 67.5” square quilt are 1.25 yards each for your light and dark fabric, and 10 fat quarters for your medium fabric.

If you’ve got some fabric combinations in mind and would like an idea of how your Perfect Picnic quilt might look, send us an email and we can do a quick mock-up for you! (Mock-ups will be available for this pattern only!)

The pattern is free and you can grab it from Ruby Star Society here! Happy Sewing!
